Europe Automotive TPMS Market Analysis
The Europe Automotive TPMS Market is expected to register a CAGR of more than 10 % during the forecast period, 2020-2025.
- Significant factors such as consumer preference toward advanced driver assistance systems, the spike in the sales of luxury vehicles, and the growing number of accidents and subsequent road fatalities have prompted the regulatory authorities to mandate the TPMS in automobiles. There is a positive net effect in luxury car registrations from 2018 to 2019, as volume jumped from 2.29 million to 2.35 million in 2019.
- Despite the weak growth rate of the passenger vehicle segment in Europe, the market for premium luxury vehicles is expected to increase significantly in countries like Germany and Italy. Luxury vehicles are expected to witness a steady growth rate across the entire passenger vehicle segment. With TPMS fitted in a majority of these vehicles, the passenger vehicle segment is poised to drive the market for automotive TPMS significantly.
- Companies, like Continental AG and Huf Hülsbeck & Fürst GmbH & Co. KG, are now producing TPMS systems for high-end models of automakers, such as Toyota, Lexus, BMW, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Chrysler, Jeep, and Rolls Royce all across Europe. With the growing consumer demand for vehicles with advanced safety features, TPMS is highly anticipated to be available as a standard in C-segment hatchbacks, Sedans, and SUVs.
Europe Automotive TPMS Market Trends
This section covers the major market trends shaping the Europe Automotive TPMS Market according to our research experts:
Direct TPMS is Growing with High Growth Rate
TPMS provides a wide range of advantages, correctly filled tires have lower rolling resistance and suffer lesser tire abrasion, which significantly increases the service life of tires. Secondly, the fuel consumption and thus, emissions of CO2 can be lowered. Thirdly, with shorter braking distances and excellent cornering stability, it offers a comfortable ride.
Air pressure monitoring systems are also offered as direct and indirect systems. Indirect systems help record the data and determine the loss of air pressure due to the wheel's increased speed. While direct systems measure and archive accurate air pressure data using built-in sensors to the valves. Direct systems can detect both slow diffusion losses and rapid pressure losses on a tire. As a result we see Direct systems being accommodated in larger number of vehicles
In February 2019, Continental launched a direct TPMS service tool. With the VDO TPMS Go device, TPMS workshops can program all common universal sensors for cars and read nearly every TPMS sensor on the market. The TPMS Go combines functions established in the VDO TPMS Pro device. With a practical design, it is a suitable supplement to a diagnostic device which is slim and cost-efficient.
Diect TPMS usually finds major applications in the passenger vehicle segment, where tire pressure management is considered to be a critical safety system. The automotive industry has been stepping up on introducing features that aid in minimizing the impact of collisions, reduce fatalities, and improve overall vehicle safety. This, in turn, is fueling the growth of the automotive TPMS market during the forecast period.
Germany Remains the Market Leader in 2019
The EU has long opted for the introduction of tire pressure monitoring systems. With Germany leading the European TPMS market, they aim to reduce fuel consumption and contribute towards improving road safety.
The European Parliament has approved a directive proposal aimed to simplify and change the type of motor vehicles with measures imposing mandatory adoption of technologies in Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems(TPMS). These changes also need to meet the already existing German Road Safety Council's initiative to tire safety.
As per EU norms, vehicles in categories M1 have to be equipped with an accurate Tyre Pressure Monitoring System capable of giving, when necessary, an in-car warning to the driver when a loss of pressure occurs in any tire. This also improves the optimum fuel consumption and road safety. Appropriate limits in the technical specifications have bee set to achieve a technology-neutral and cost-effective approach in the development of accurate TPMS.
A variety of relevant air pressure tests in Germany and Europe demonstrate that at least 35 % of all motor vehicles in operation have made negative air pressure, which would approximately save 3.1 billion liters of fuel consumed in Europe and with the added benefits of reducing the emission of pollutants.
Europe Automotive TPMS Industry Overview
The Europe Automotive TPMS Market is dominated with various international and regional players such as Continental AG, Huf Hülsbeck & Fürst GmbH & Co. KG and ZF Friedrichshafen AG. Although to have the edge over its competitors, the major TPMS manufacturing companies are making joint-ventures, partnerships to launch newer products.
In November 2019, Huf Hülsbeck & Fürst G.m.b.H. & Co. K.G. and Shanghai Baolong Automotive Group have formed a joint venture, BH SENS, that combines their respective tire pressure monitoring systems businesses into a new entity. BH SENS works with original equipment manufacturers to create OE TPM systems for vehicle manufacturers all around the world and for the automotive aftermarket under the IntelliSens Universal-brand TPMS sensor program.
