Military Gas Mask Market Analysis

The military gas mask market was valued at USD 1,131 million in 2023 and is expected to reach USD 1,430 million in 2028, projecting a CAGR of 3.00% during the forecast period (2023-2028).

The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the military gas market. The shutdown of non-essential businesses resulted in an economic crisis, and trade restrictions prevented international trade. The pandemic also led to a decrease in the production of military gas masks worldwide. However, with the decline of the pandemic, borders opened, leading to an increase in trade and manufacturing of military gas masks worldwide. As a result, the market is expected to experience significant growth in the near future.

The demand for first responder gas masks has increased due to the growing instances of accidents related to chemical spillages, radioactive particulate matter diffusions, and the outbreak of biological threats and pandemics. Additionally, political conflicts, terrorism, and unrest in various countries worldwide are expected to increase the demand for modern military masks.

The dynamic nature of modern warfare has resulted in the inclusion of highly lethal chemical and biological agents into weaponry, posing a significant risk to soldiers on the battlefield. This has generated a growing demand for military gas masks worldwide.

Military Gas Mask Market Trends

The Full-Face Gas Mask Segment Is Expected To Witness A Significant Growth During The Forecast Period.

The full-face gas mask market is expected to grow significantly during the forecast period. The full-face gas mask is widely adopted by military forces and first responders worldwide due to the greater comfort and protection it provides to the face. Newer models of full-face masks are designed to offer a better view than half-face masks. Although full-face masks are heavier than half-face masks, they provide complete protection for the nose, mouth, and eyes, making them safer than half-face gas masks. Additionally, the increasing threats from nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) agents often pose risks to the health of first responders and military personnel. Therefore, the ability of full-face gas masks to counter such threats will lead to growth in the coming years.

In the military, growing chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense (CBRN) threats are projected to drive the need for adopting various troop protection measures, such as full-face masks, which provide enhanced protection against radioactive particulate matter. The presence of various manufacturers, including MIRA Safety, 3M, and Parcil Safety, who are engaged in designing advanced full-face gas masks, will lead to the growth of the full-face gas mask market during the forecast period.

North America Is Expected To Witness Significant Growth During The Forecast Period

North America is expected to witness significant growth during the forecast period. The United States is one of the major importers of military gas masks worldwide. In addition, the country is constantly upgrading its military and first responder protection systems, which is expected to generate revenues for the players supplying the gas masks to the country. For instance, in September 2022, the United States Department of Defense sought to develop a single decontaminant effective against chemical and biological agents for decontaminating tactical vehicles, ship surfaces, and weapons. The United States Department of Defense's current requirement is the M50 gas masks to be used by all sectors of service. Moreover, the M50 gas masks provided outstanding protection against a variety of challenges.

The presence of various companies that are engaged in the development of advanced military gas masks will lead to the market witnessing growth in the coming years. For instance, in recent years, Avon Protection has developed the M53AI mask. The M53Ai mask has been developed based on the Joint Service General Purpose (JSGP) program of the United States. Moreover, the mask has also been developed to meet the unique requirements of Special Mission Units while providing maximum operational flexibility. Thus, such developments will lead the market to witness significant growth during the forecast period.
